The historic City of Caen is synonomous with the history of Normandy. Caen Castle was built in 1060 by William the Conqueror prior to the invasion of England and the Battle of Hastings. William was also buried here after returning to France. During World War 2 the city was reduced to ruins during the allied liberation with 75% damage.
Populated by 120,000 Caen today is a thriving city with a vibrant shopping area and social structure.
